About Stephen Kennard
The Author Behind CallaghanVerse
CallaghanVerse is built around one protagonist and one theme: systems don’t arrive fully formed; they accumulate until they feel inevitable.
About the Author
Stephen Kennard is the author of the Callaghan Trilogy — three interconnected novels following Maeve Callaghan across different worlds and different life stages, connected by a single thread: what happens when the systems built to protect people start doing something else entirely.
Before writing fiction, Stephen spent thirty years in IT and defence contracting. That background shapes everything in the trilogy. The surveillance architectures, compliance infrastructure, and data systems in Providence 2025 are grounded in how these things actually work. The research tagline is That’s Not Fiction, That’s Tuesday.
“Same trauma, different interpretations.”
Ask The System is a reference interface embedded in this site, trained on the author’s research and draft material for Providence 2025. It answers factual and contextual questions about the CallaghanVerse — and says clearly when something isn’t in the corpus.

The Universe
The Road Between — A fantasy journey through ancient woodland. Maeve must choose between the Path of Light and the Path of Shadow — but the safe path holds hidden dangers, and the dangerous one offers genuine growth. Nothing is quite what it seems. Structure complete.
Providence 2025 — Bristol, December 2025. Compliance analyst Maeve Callaghan audits Providence — the infrastructure managing sixty million people. When she finds her brother Liam’s data inside a profile that shouldn’t exist, she begins to understand what the system actually does. And what it means that she’s been making it more efficient. Complete draft — at reader review stage.
Tales from the Grid — Post-collapse survival. The final book in the Callaghan Trilogy, exploring the world that remains when the systems fail permanently. Concept phase.
Ask The System — A reference interface trained on the author’s research notes and draft material for Providence 2025. Ask factual questions about the CallaghanVerse — characters, locations, systems, events.

In Progress
Providence 2025
Bristol, December 2025. Maeve Callaghan audits Providence — the compliance infrastructure that scores, monitors, and quietly manages sixty million people. She believes her work makes dangerous technology safer.
On 2 December she finds fragments of her brother Liam’s data inside a synthetic citizen profile that has no right to exist. What she doesn’t yet know is that Providence inherited its algorithms from the industrial safety systems that killed their father. She has been improving the machine that murdered him.
